MindWave won't work on Mac or Windows

[This article applies only to the white MindWave headset. It does not apply to the black MindWave Mobile headsets.]

Here are some tips to try if you are having trouble using your MindWave after CD installation:


For Mac Users

  • If you have Mac OS X 10.12 or higher and can't install the Prerequisites package from the CD:

    • You will need to download and install both of these packages after the normal CD installation (because Mac OS 10.12 no longer supports the Silverlight and Adobe Air included on the CD):
  • If you have Mac OS X 10.10 or higher and MindWave Manager can't find the headset, or it gets "timeout" error messages:

    • You will need to download and install the updated MindWave Manager app, and the appropriate Driver for your platform after the normal CD installation:
  • Jack's Adventure and The Mindty Ant won't work on Mac OS X 10.9 or higher.

    • These two apps were developed by a 3rd-party developer, and unfortunately there will be no update for these apps to support Mac OS X 10.9 or higher.

For Windows Users

  • If MindWave Manager can't find the headset, or it gets "timeout" error messages:
    • Sometimes, the Autoupdate feature of the Windows OS will install an incorrect driver, instead of NeuroSky's MindWave driver. Please make sure the correct driver is installed on your system by following the instructions on this link (click here).

For Windows & Mac Users

  • If you still having problems, please try downloading and installing the latest ThinkGear Connector (click here).

  • If you still having problems, please try relaunching the application and rebooting your computer.
